KARATE FOR ADULTS is designed for adults ages 18 and older. However, younger students may participate with the Director's permission.

Seichou Karate Dojo is unique because we immerse our students in authentic Japanese terminology, etiquette, and traditions throughout each class, providing a richer understanding of karate as both a martial art and a cultural practice.

Each class begins and ends with quiet meditation. Physical training starts with a yoga-based full-body warm-up followed by exercises that develop strength, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, and coordination.

Students then progress through the three essential components of traditional karatedo:

Kihon Waza – fundamental techniques including strikes, blocks, stances, and partner drills.

Kata – formal movement patterns performed against imaginary opponents that develop poise, balance, precision, focus, and power.

Jiyu Kumite – free fighting in which we have a partner who punches and kicks us and whom we punch and kick. Jiyu Kumite helps us breathe life into kihon waza and kata because in it we learn timing, distance, strategy, self-control, and practical application of technique.

Students of all experience levels train together in a respectful and supportive environment where they encourage, motivate, and learn from one another.

To ensure adequate staffing and class preparation, students are required to reserve their class on our App at least two hours before the scheduled start time.

This day is marked as closed. Reopen the day to edit or restore sessions.

Seichou Sprouts is Seichou Karate’s foundational program for children ages 4 and 5. Each 40-minute class includes a full-body, yoga-based warm-up, strength-building exercises, coordination drills, and instruction in basic karate hand and foot techniques.  However, our youngest students don’t merely learn to kick and punch. Rather, they begin their journey into authentic Japanese culture. In the Seichou Sprouts program, we integrate traditional karate training with age-appropriate Japanese language learning. Children are introduced to Japanese naturally through movement, repetition, and tradition.  Through activities such as bowing, counting in Japanese, responding to simple commands, and using simple phrases, students begin to acquire vocabulary and basic language patterns in a fun, high-energy environment. This unique combination of martial arts training and language exposure develops focus, self-control, confidence, and emotional resilience, and enhances coordination and cognitive engagement. These skills provide a powerful foundation for success in elementary school and beyond. Best of all, your child will have a ton of fun in this action-packed class.  Enrollment is limited. Walk-ins are not permitted. Please reserve a spot for your child at least one day in advance.

Meditation is the practice of quieting ourselves so we may cultivate greater calm, self-awareness, focus, and well-being. Like karate, meditation is a lifelong journey. There is no finish line, only the opportunity to return, day after day, to a moment of stillness.

For this reason, meditation has always been an important part of training at Seichou Karate. We begin and end each class with a brief period of quiet reflection, helping students develop the habit of centering themselves amid the demands of daily life.

Our dedicated Meditation Class offers students, family members, and friends an opportunity to explore this practice more deeply in a welcoming and supportive environment. No prior experience is necessary. Simply come as you are, sit comfortably, and learn to cultivate stillness one breath at a time.

Many people find that regular meditation helps them reduce stress, improve concentration, develop emotional balance, and approach life's challenges with greater clarity and composure.

Current Seichou Karate students attend free of charge.
Guests and non-students: $5 per class.

Japanese for Adults

This online class is free to current Seichou Karate students and $200 per month for non-karate students.

Designed for adult beginners, this course helps students build a solid foundation in Japanese by learning how the language works rather than relying on rote memorization. While Nihongo (Japanese language) is often considered difficult for English speakers, it is also remarkably logical, consistent, and predictable once its basic patterns are understood.

Through our practical, enjoyable approach to language learning, dedicated students can develop basic conversational skills within approximately 12 months. Classes emphasize real-world communication, cultural understanding, and steady progress in a supportive environment.

Our Nihongo program stands apart from traditional language courses because Japanese commands, etiquette, and cultural concepts are regularly incorporated into our karate classes. In addition, Nihongo students have opportunities to practice Japanese with fellow students before, during, and after classes. This ongoing exposure and reinforcement throughout the week helps students build confidence and make faster progress than is typically possible through classroom instruction alone.

Try a free lesson this week and discover how enjoyable learning Nihongo can be!

What Is KICK™?

This summer, treat your child to a high-quality week of authentic cultural immersion through our Kids Interdisciplinary Culture & Karate® Day Camp (KICK™). The result: confidence, focus, friendships, cultural discovery, and tons of fun!
